Londoners are selling up, leaving the capital and heading to Leicester in higher numbers than ever according to Hamptons International.

Data released by Hamptons International has revealed that people left London in greater numbers than ever before, in the first half of 2018.

First-time buyers are increasingly being forced to consider alternatives to London due to the lack of affordable options in the capital.

For the price of a small flat in London a homebuyer can afford a large detached property in the Midlands.

According to Hamptons, over 30,000 Londoners sold their homes to leave the capital - a 16% increase on the same period in 2017.

In 2017, one in 17 moved to the Midlands. Birmingham and Leicester are firm favourites due to the affordability of housing and the quality of local services, including schools and hospitals.
